The recommended levels are guidance, not locks — stages sit on a continuous track. But the numbers escalate sharply between worlds, so arriving at a stage far below its recommended level mostly means being unable to make the jumps.

The pattern

Read the columns and the design is obvious:

Every world starts exactly 150 levels above the last (0 → 150 → 300 → 450)
Within a world, the first four stages step by +10, then the rest step by +20
So each world spans the same 130 levels, just shifted

Which means World 4 Stage 1 (level 450) is easier relative to your progress than World 1 Stage 9 (level 130) was, because your multiplier at 24 rebirths is ×13 rather than ×1. The absolute numbers climb, but the difficulty doesn't climb with them — the multiplier does most of the catching up.

This trips people up: reaching level 150 does not open World 2. Worlds are gated purely on rebirth count:
